Film Festival at Silver City March 21st and March 28th, 2010

FAQS

Where can I purchase a membership?
You can purchase a membership for $10 at any NOSFA film screening. We show films on Thursday nights, once or twice a month at Silver City. Each film has two showings per night at 7 and 9 PM.

Do I need to purchase a membership to see a film?
No. The admission to a film for non-members is $9.

When does the membership expire?
The membership lasts from time of purchase until the conclusion of the season. The NOSFA season runs from late September to May. Memberships are also normally applicable to the Northwest Film Fest, the status of which as indicated above is TBA.

Why should I buy a membership?
Members save on admission prices - $6.00 for members vs. $9.00 for non-members per film. See a few films during the season and the membership pays for itself! In addition to discounted admission, members receive our seasonal flyer with film previews and scheduling information. Members will also receive an ‘upcoming film’ email reminder (if requested), and a special sneak-peek festival flyer a few weeks before the event.

How do I find out about upcoming films?
The Chronicle-Journal will feature a NOSFA ad & we try to be highlighted in the paper's "What to Do" section. We also place ads in the TB Source weekly newspaper for imminent screenings. NOSFA does try to place ads for upcoming screenings in The Argus wherever possible, in order to inform the student body.

What is the film festival like?
For the past several years at the Cumberland Theatre (usually at the end of March) NOSFA hosts the annual Northwest Filmfest. The four-day festival format began on Thursday and finished on Sunday evening. The line-up usually featured 18 films from around the world. Each film has multiple showings, resulting in between 50 to 60 screenings over the four days. However, with a change in venue, chances are that the Northwest Film Fest, if operational, will adopt a radically different format. For instance, prior to tenancy at the Cumberland, the festival was shown in two-screen venues at the Paramount (when Paramount One was still an active theatre) and the now-defunct Odeon Victorias. This formats were more modest in scope, featuring single showings of roughly 14 titles over the four days. With the closing of the Cumberland Cinema last season, we have moved our regular screenings to our new home: Silver City Thunder Bay, 850 May Street. We have a new festival format: Super Cinematic Sundays! The festival takes place on March 21st and March 28th this year.

How can I volunteer?
We need many volunteers during the festival and at our regular screenings. Volunteer opportunities include handing out information, taking tickets, working the membership table, and ushering patrons to their seats. If you would like to volunteer for the festival or during the regular season, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at hews@tbaytel.net

Our membership form also has a volunteer section that can be filled out and added to our database.
